The Ones Who Walked Away from Omelas Essay Example for Free
The Ones Who Walked Away from Omelas EssayI do non think the bank clerk lives in Omelas, because of the way he compares their society to ours, and them to us. He also never includes himself in his descriptions of them, although that begs the question how does he know them so intimately if not for having been at that place? The Omelas society is utopian, intelligent, compassionate, respectful, having no need for law, or clergy, beautifully built the list goes on. Everything is perfect, all except the hidden child. It seems that the narrator sympathizes with the people of Omelas and understands the quandary they are in. He points out the countless good the citizens do in order to counteract the one terrible hidden blight on their society. He practically states that the dry land they ARE so good collectively and what makes it such an amazing place to be is the fact that they do share this knowledge of the childs torment. It does not seem as though the author shares this sentime nt of sympathy, and she wants the reader to abhor what is taking place in Omelas and proclaim we would paseo away. The narrator views the one who walk away with incredulity. He cannot even begin to describe where it is they go towards, believing it would be even harder to imagine than Omelas. I do not think he could have been one who walked away from Omelas. He seems very resigned to the belief that idealism should be set aside for pragmatism. The willingness of the author to allow us to add whatsoever details we like to her story is added to help us visualize its possibility. These minute details dont change the bones of the story or the intend behind the words, they simply help us add to the visual picture in our heads. The desolate room the forsaken child resides in is the basis that the entire utopian and beautiful Omelas society rests itself on. The fact that the coming of age of each member of their society is hinged upon their realization of the child and even more tragic vi ewing of state child is very symbolic. In todays world we are slowly made aware that not all are provided the luxuries that galore(postnominal) of us are lucky to experience. We also generally learn to live with this knowledge, shove it aside and continue on with our lives. We have come to accept that the needs of the many outweigh the few. Some of us, like those who walk out of Omelas choose to stand up against injustices and walk away from it all. Many more of us use justifications as they did, believing that even if the child was let out it would never really live a meaningful life but instead be squinch by fear and the mental anguish of its past in the cellar.

Current Trend in Management Essay Example for Free
Current Trend in Management EssayThe management should recognize the most-valuable role of valet imagings management in order to successfully guide organizations towards profitability. It is essential for the management of investment and time-consuming and the amount, to see heighten scenario for the humankind resources part in the 21st century. In order to stay competitive and be in the race, and human resources management should certainly update itself with a shift in human resources, and be aware of the human resources issues cropping up.With high attrition rates and poaching strategies of competitors, and there is a huge shortage of skilled staff, and therefore, the comp either human resources activities play a vital role in combating the crisis. Should be put in the appropriate human resource policies that would lead to the organization as hale as the individual s goals. And human resource managers to manage all the challenges facing staff recruitment, readying the m, and then develop strategies to retain their career and pattern an effective management system for them. That just taking care of employees go away not be enough new initiatives for human resources should also focus on the quality and productivity needs, and direct clients and stress, teamwork and leadership building. This book is divided into two parts, which sheds light on the emerging trends in human resources, and discusses the issues of human resources in various(a) industries such as financial services, information technology, energy and health care, for example a few. It should be the value of this book is to practice human resource managers in each institution, as well as for those who have a great interest in the field of human resources management, to realize the increasing importance of human resources and understand the need to build human resources effective strategies to combat human resources issues emerging in the 21st century.Has evolved Human Resource Managemen t Introduction to a large extent over the past century, and has seen a major shift in form and function primarily during the past two decades. Led a number of large forces environmental internal and external, progress has been made in the management of human resources function maintenance to a large extent, with little if any impact down the line, why many scholars and practitioners regard directly as a source of competitive advantage for sustainable organizations operating in the international economy.Changes in human resources management some significant changes that are likely to take place in the management of human resources are as fol clinical depressionsAn sum up in the levels of educationDue to the technological progress and the spread of educational institutions, workers will start out increasingly aware of the needs of a higher level, managers essential develop appropriate policies and techniques to motivate knowledge workers. Better-educated workforce and greater dem and management assessment and self-governance in the workplace.Technological developmentsThis will require re- pedagogy and vocational training in the middle of each of the workers and managers. The rise of an international company to prove new challenges for individuals and function.Change the composition of the labor forceIn women, in the future, minorities, SCs and STs become an important source of manpower in the future at the expense of ease of access to better education and employment opportunities. Therefore workforce preparation will from each organization to take into account the possibility of the availability of talent in these groups. Complexometric Determination Essay Example for Free
Complexometric finding EssayIntroductionUsing a Lewis base neutral molecule to donate electron pairs (ligands) to a Lewis acid metal ion nitty-gritty to form a single cluster ( involved) ion. When the complex ions forms with a metal ion (chelation) the ligand used is called the (chelating agent). EDTA acts as a great chelating agent due to the Nitrogen and group O donating an electron pair to the metal ion center to form an octahedral complex. The metal ions especially with a +2 charge or higher atomic number 18 the reason for pissing stiffness to form on various objects known as scum. Calcium ions are typically the most common contributing factor for weewee hardness so this experiment uses CaCO3 (Calcium Carbonate) to analyze the hardness of an unknown quantity sample.A scale of pissing hardness identifies soft water with a value curt than 60 ppm (parts per million) and hard water with a value more than 200 ppm. 3 mL of ammonia/ammonium chloride buffer (pH 10) is add ed to the mixture prior to the titration to grab the calcium metal ions so the indicator can work properly. The experiment adds 4 drops of Eriochrome Black T as the indicator to optically see the simulation change as complexes are formed and the source undergoes chelation of metal impurities. The polish change from indicator starts as pink and changes to a violet and so inflame blue color to signify the chemical phase changes throughout the reaction until the endpoint. 3 titrations are experimentally conducted to calculate the regard as average of the Na2 EDTA for experimental accuracy. The EDTA fuddled average is then used to calculate the water hardness of an unknown water sample (97) using 3 more titrations to calculate a mean average of the unknown water sample. An absolute deviation is calculated for each titration experiment to calculate the experimental estimated precision. The final experimental result is then compared to the metropolis of Tempe standard for water har dness and acceptable standards.Principle(Spurlock, 2014)(Spurlock, 2014)A complex ion is an ion containing a central metal cation bonded to one or more molecules or ions (Chang, 2013). and like complex ions, a ligand is a molecule or ion that is bonded to the metal ion in a complex ion (Chang, 2013). A chelating agent is a substance that forms complex ions with metal ions in a declaration (Chang, 2013). The process of the chelating agent forming is called chelation. E.D.T.A. (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) is a common chelating agent that will be used in this experiment to constitute the metal ions. Tetraamminecopper (II) Cu(NH3)42+ will be the complex ion in this lab experiment. In chapter 11.1-3 the Kinetic Molecular Theory is being tested in this experiment (Chang, 2013). Solids are denser than blands and allow very little empty space to exist between molecules limiting the freedom of motion. The liquids are less dense than solids, held closely together with little space be tween molecules (less than solids), however, the molecules in liquid do not break away from the attractive forces allowing them to move past each other freely.Gases are the least dense and have the largest amount of distance between molecules allowing them to move around more freely. According to the theory, the experimental Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen and Oxygen ions are able to quickly attract and find the metal ion in the liquid by donating their electron pair to the metal ion center creating the complex. These complex ions in the experiment use intermolecular and intramolecular forces to break and hold chemical bonds thru the experimental process of chelation to identify the hardness of the unknown sample. After the reaction is complete, when evaporation and or vaporization of the liquid and gas in the molecules is separated the remaining metal impurities known as scum are left.In chapter 4.1 hydration is used to orient the negative poles of the diatomic gases to the demonstrab le pole of the Hydrogen and metal impurities in the resolve creation the complex cluster. Chapter 4 is also used for titration of redox reactions using a standard solution (Na2 EDTA) to add into another solution of unknown concentration (unknown sample + ammonia/ammoniumchloride buffer + Eriochrome Black T) until the equivalence point is reached (has fully reacted) as visually identified by the indicators (Eriochrome Black T) from the color change of pink to violet to blue.Procedure1. Prepare about 500mL of approximately 0.004M disodium EDTA solution. To prepare your solution, weigh out 0.7-0.8g of Na2EDTA and brush aside in about 500mL deionized water in your plastic bottle. Seal the bottle and shake vigorously for a few minutes to dissolve the salt. 2. Standardize the Na2EDTA solution using a stock calcium ion solution as the primary standard a. Use a 10-mL transfer pipet to add 10.00 mL of convertible calcium ion stock solution (1.000g CaCO3/L solution) to a 250-mL Erlenmeyer flask. b. Add about 30 ml of deionized water to this titration flask. c. Add a magnetic stir-bar, place on a magnetic stirrer and begin stirring. A piece of white paper under the flask gives good contrast for easier detection of the indicator color change. d. Inside the fume hood, add about 3mL of ammonia/ammonium chloride buffer (pH 10).The buffer is an inhalation irritant. Stir for 30 seconds. e. Just prior to titrating the flask, add intravenous feeding drops of Eriochrome Black T indicator solution. Continue stirring for another 30 seconds and then titrate this solution with your disodium EDTA solution within 15 minutes. f. Slow take your titration near the endpoint, as the color change takes 3-5 seconds to develop. At the end point, the color changes from pink to violet to blue. If you feel unsure whether youve reached your endpoint, read and record the volume delivered and then add another drop of titrant to check for a complete color change. g. Repeat this titration two mor e times.Calculate the molarity of your disodium EDTA from each titration. Average your molarities from the trio trials and calculate your precision. 3. Choose one prepared unknown water sample as provided. Record the unknown code in your notebook, then titrate this water sample with your standardized disodium EDTA solution a. Transfer 25.00mL of the prepared water sample to a 250-mL Erlenmeyer flask. b. Add about 20ml of DI water to the titration flask.c. Add a magnetic stir-bar. seat the flask on a magnetic stirrer and begin stirring. d. Inside the fume hood, add about 3mL of ammonia/ammonium chloride buffer (pH 10). Stir for 30 seconds. e. Just prior to titrating, add four drops of Eriochrome Black T Indicator solution to your flask. Continue stirring for another 30 seconds and then titrate this solution with your standardized disodium EDTA solution within 15 minutes. f. Repeat this titration twice more. Calculate the hardness (mg CaCO3/L) of the prepared water sample from each o f your titrations. Calculate your average hardness and your experimental precision from the three trials. 4. Compare your results to the expected range for municipal water hardness. Check your citys water quality lab website (e.g. http//www.tempe.gov/waterquality/typical_values.htm) (Complexometric Determination of Water Hardness Lab, n.d.).ObservationsUpon adding the preparing the Na2EDTA solution the Na2EDTA solid was quickly dissolved into the DI water to create a clear solution. Later on in the procedure grade of adding the ammonia/ammonium chloride buffer into the 250 mL flask, a visual chemical reaction was observed as the ammonia buffer was mixing into the flask with CaCO3 and the unknown solution in both procedures. Upon adding the Eriochrome Black T indicator the color was visually changed from clear to soft pink in both procedures. During titration of both procedures the visual color change was observed from light see-through pink to see-through violet when the process w as close to ending, then from see-through violet to see-through light blue signaling then end of the reaction process.

Paradigm of Cold Chain Management Systems
ikon of inhuman Chain Management SystemsThe New Paradigm Of Cold Chain Management Systems And Its Logistics On tunny Fishery Sector In Ind cardinalsiaGrasiano Warakano LailossaAbstract. The Cold cosmic string completement is an important element in ensuring amounts of quality and safety of fishery carrefours. Trend Quality standard requirements quality ,safety and traceability of fishery products argon getting higher and the global effect, this causes to the need for a new paradigm of the insentient chain management act as appropriate the trend. The results of the review previous studys show, the application of cold chain management are still partial and not yet fully integrated in the whole process (Post harvest handling, processing and packaging, cold storage and distri stillion, refrigerated revelation, marketing of fishery products). This paper provides a new paradigm offers cold chain management by strategys integration approach. The output of this integration cast will be expected to improve the competitiveness exportations of Indonesian fishery products( tunnys)Key rowing Cold chain management,Indonesian Fishery Poduct, tunaIntroduction. Cold chain system application is one way to preserve quality standard and safety of food products. Cold chain system or usually named with cold chain management is one of cold chain system which designed to guarantee whole process, beginning from capture process/harvest, cultivation until product distribution less until it consumed, it will be continuously intact and according to desired functional standard. there are three basic standard Quality, Safety and Traceability. One of the intimately significant constraints is the high level of post harvest losses. Post harvest losses as a result of a poor cold chain implementation in the industry are cited fifteen to twenty percent from the primary producer to retail outlet. See Figure 1Figure 1 Cold Chain Management (source http//www.iaph.uni-bonn.de/Coldcha in/)Cold chain Specifically, a supply chain or logistics network is the system of organizations, people, technology, activities, information, and resources involved in moving a product or service from supplier to customer. offer chain activities transform natural resources, raw materials, and components into washed-up products that are delivered to the end user. In sophisticated supply chain systems, used products may re-enter the supply chain at any point where residual survey is recyclableA cold chain is a temperature-controlled supply chain it is a concept resulting from specific needs related to the transformation and distribution of temperature-sensitive products( J.P. Emond,2008)To manage the cold chain effectively we need to beware of what the drivers for transmute are along the food supply chain and be able to adapt to them(W capital of Minnesota Davies,2003), Professor Davies lists the drivers of change asConsumer Tastes and behaviourCompetition and production efficiency Advances in technologyInstitutional pressures and regulatory requirementsEnvironmental considerationsInternational and globalisation influences semipolitical influencesWe see this occurring globally as food supply chains compete aggressively with each other and buyers source products whenever and wherever it gives them advantage.Indonesian Fishery Sector. Indonesia is the biggest tuna-producing hoidenish in the world, alter 15 percent of global tuna production in 2009, followed by the Philippines, China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Spain. The main commercially caught tuna species in Indonesia are click beetle (62% of match tuna landings), yellowfin (29%),bigeye (7%), albacore (1%), and Southern bluefin (1%). The fishing lawsuit for Indonesian tuna fall under two convention areas, Indian Ocean and Western Central Pacific Ocean (WCPO). The Western Central Pacific Ocean currently supports the largest industrial tuna fishery in Indonesia, contributing almost 80 percent of total Indon esian commercial tuna production, while Eastern Indian Ocean contributes 20 percent (FAO 2010). tuna fish products are the second biggest Indonesian fishery product export, afterwards shrimp, contributing 14 percent of total export value, about USD 352 million, in 2009. The main markets for tuna exported from Indonesia are Japan (35%), the United States (20%), Thailand (12%), European Union countries (9%),and Saudi Arabia (6%) (MMAF 2010).Indonesia is also one of the major suppliers to markets in the United States and Japan. As the biggest fresh and frozen tuna supplier to the US, Indonesia contributes about 27 percent (or about 13 thousand tonnes) of the total US fresh and frozen tuna import in 2010, value at USD 112 million (NMFS 2011).According to data from MMAF and JICA (2009), yellowfin tuna catches has showed downward trend, in 2000, total catch of yellowfin tuna reached 163,241 tonnes, but since then it tend to falling off and dropped to 94,406 tonnes in 2006, though in 20 07 it started to recover again with 103,655 tonnes catch. Indian Ocean (Indian Ocean, Western Timor Sea, Bali Strait and Sawu Sea) used to be the main catching areas for yellowfin tuna. close 54% of total yellowfin tuna in Indonesia was caught from this area. In the eastern part, Sulawesi Sea and Pacific Ocean was the important catching areas for yellowfin tuna, covering 33.7% of total yellowfin tuna landings, followed by Flores and Makassar Strait (18.2%) and Moluccas Sea, Tomini Bay, and Seram Sea (12.4%) ,see Figure 2Figure. 2. yellowfin Tuna Landing Distributin per Fishery Management Areas (WPP) in 2004 (source Indonesian Tuna Supply Chain psychoanalysis, Sustainable Fisheries Partnership,2010)In general, Maluku-Papua contributes the biggest landings of albacore, bigeye tuna, and yellowfin tuna, with 26 percent of total Indonesian tuna landings, followed by North Sulawesi (24%), Bali-Nusa Tenggara (16%), South Sulawesi (12%), North coffee tree (10%), and West Sumatra (8%) (Note for Bali-Nusa Tenggara, North Java, and West Sumatra, the landings also include Southern bluefin tuna). Since tuna resources are abundant and scattered around Indonesian waters, fishing grounds and landing areas of tuna in Indonesia are dispersed. A significant volume of tuna is unloaded in Muara Baru (Jakarta) and Benoa (Bali) three other fishing ports that carry tuna are Bitung, Ambon, and Sorong, see Figure 3.Figure 3. Major Ports of Tuna Fisheries in Indonesia (source Sustainable Indonesian Tuna Initiative,White paper, Sustainable Fisheries Partnership,2011)Indonesian Tuna Supply Chain. Supply chains for most of the fish species start from oceans and end up with consumer markets far from thousands of miles. Asupplychainis a network of retailers, distributors, transporters, storage facilities andsuppliersthat participate in the production, delivery and sale of a product to the consumer (Harland, 1996),In the Indonesian tuna value chain, four main categories of operators can be distinguishedFishermenFish landing sites and portsMiddlemenProcessors/exporters , See Figure 4Figure 4. Indonesian Tuna Supply Chain, (source Indonesian Tuna Supply Chain Analysis, Sustainable Fisheries Partnership,2010)According LEI Wageningen UR (Arie Pieter van Duijn, Rik Beukers and Willem van der Pijl) in CBI spread over The Indonesian seafood empyrean,2012, The bottlenecks for the Indonesian tuna industry occur at several stages of the value chain. Because pro-cessors and exporters mainly depend on the catches of the Indonesian tuna fleet, it is essential to opti-mise the possible of the fishing fleet. Better handling and storage of tuna can produce to a greater extent high-quality tuna for export, benefitting processors and exporters too and preventing the need to further exploit tuna stocks. As there are many small landing sites, it is also crucial that tuna landed at these sites can be transported efficiently.Although several exporters of frozen and transcribed tuna a re already EU certified, there is still potential to help small exporters meet EU requirements. Furthermore, there is a growing de-mand for sustainable and eco-labelled tuna in the EU market, which could nurse potential for Indonesian ex-porters. Also the lack of traceability throughout the entire value chain implies that support for fishermen, middlemen and processors/exporters is required.(CBI Report The Indonesian seafood sector, A value chain analysis, LEI Wageningen UR ,2012) Indonesia contributes about 4 percent of total global fresh and frozen tuna exports, exporting about 65.5thousand tonnes in 2007, valued at USD 150 million. Indonesia also contributes more than 4 percent of total global canned tuna exports, exporting about 52.4 thousands tonnes in 2007, valued at USD 151.9 million (Globefish, 2010).Indonesia was the leader of countries supplying tuna to Japan (mainly yellowfin and bigeye), sending about 20 thousand tonnes per year to Japans market. Indonesia single cont ributes about 2 percent (9,800 tonnes in 2008) of total canned tuna imported to the EU market.Exports of frozen Yellow fin tuna (in various product types) from Indonesia have increased in the last five years. In 2006 USD 13m was exported, while in 2010 the export value has more than doubled to USD 31m. Most of the frozen Yellow fin tuna is exported to the US.However, MMAF export statistics show that for the total export of frozen tuna (Yellow fin tuna as well as other species), export values were significant-ly higher. In 2010 the export value of frozen tuna to Japan was USD 22m, while exports to the US amounted to USD 18m. Other species that are exported as tuna will most likely concern Bigeye tuna.Methods. This paper based on paper review and some flelds study, This paper is a continuation of the first paper that presented at an transnational seminar on december 2nd APTECS 2010Result And DiscussionIntegrity Cold Chain Systems. According to Jean-capital of Minnesota Rodrigue,et a ll,2009, functionally, there are three elements that integrate within the cold chain systemProduct. a product is characterized by physical attributes requiring specific temperature and humidity conditions. These conditions dictate its transport, which takes place in a manner that does not countermine its physical attributes to an extent that is judged acceptable. Otherwise, the product loses a share or the entirety of its commercial value. It mostly relates to how perishable and fragile a product can be how it handles the cold chain process.Origin / Destination. a function of the respective locations where a temperature-sensitive product is produced and consumed. It is indicative of the potential difficulty of making a product available at a market, which for a long time was an important constraint. Because of advances in cold chain logistics, it became possible to use increasingly distant sourcing strategies spanning the world.Distribution. The methods and infrastructures availabl e to transport a product in a temperature-controlled environment. It can involve temperature controlled containers (reefers), trucks and warehousing facilities.See Figure 5Conditional demand. The demand of a product at a market (or place of consumption) is conditional to its qualitative attributes.Load integrity. Relates to the load conditions that must be provided to insure that a product keeps its value during transport and accounting its perishability. dribble integrity. The series of tasks and safeguards that must be performed to insure that the temperature controlled environment remains constant (Jean-Paul Rodrigue,et all,2009)Figure 5. cold chain system elements (source Jean Paul Rodrigue, Claude Comtois and Brian Slack,The Geography of Transport Systems, guerilla Edition,New York,2009)Bootlenecks for the export Indonesian TunaGlobalization makes no more will limit both in regional and international, but on the other hand the application of and determination standart food sa fety is tight.More stringent standart of food safety apply making no other survival of the fittest for business community fisheries and the whole stack holder, to try to fulfill standart who need, if they want to keep survive,The cases of rejection of fishery on the destination country exports can be seen on a table 1Table 1Totality of the rejection cases on fishery product(source, Ababouch 2006)In CBI Report The Indonesian seafood sector,a value chain analysis, by LEI Wageningen UR (Arie Pieter van Duijn, Rik Beukers and Willem van der Pijl).2012, there was some weakness logistics system and value chain, especially of Tuna of fishery sector in Indonesia, four diverse categories of influencers and supporters can be distinguishedGovernment authorities (MMAF, Ministry of Trade) search institutes (Agency for Marine and Fishery Research and Development, SFP)Producer and exporter associations (ATLI, ASTUIN, Indonesian fish cannery association, AP5I)Other supporters and influencers (L PMHP, Ice factories, WCPFC and IOTC) half a dozen bottlenecks have been identified as a result of the desk study, the field work and the discussions at the strategic conferenceHandling and cold storage of tuna after catchingTraceability (EU-catch certificates/E-logbook)Eco-labellingTrade barriers of exporting tuna to the EULack of capacity for small/medium processors to do market intelligenceFluctuating tuna catchesTo more clearly can be seen from figure 6 belowFigure 6. The Indonesian tuna value chain and its bottleneck (source Sustainable Indonesian Tuna Initiative, White paper, Sustainable Fisheries Partnership,2011)Risk Analysis and HACCP. The following factors which influential are Risk Analysis process (Risk Assessment, Risk Management and Risk Communication) and Hazard Analysis Critical Crisis Point (HACCP) is doing assessment and identification to against threat of potential danger that will arise to each cycle stage((Grasiano.W.Lailossa., 2010)The new paradigm changes in the application of Risk Analysis and HACCP should also be an important thing in the application of cold chain systems integration., on the other side of synergism and fundamental interaction between government and business must go well in the entire cycle from harvest until arriving at the consumer. Figure 7 bellow is the one form of interaction between the government and food companyFigure 7. Interaction between the governments and industrys food safety activities ,modified from Jouve et al., 1998.(Source H. H. Husset et al, Assessment and Management of Seafood Safety and Quality,2003)Conclusion. Research on stamp of cold chain system, tend to make emphasis on cases which partial, means more focus on case model with every partial approach on four primary domain that already says above (standard and regulation, risk analysis modeling and cold chain management modeling/ refrigerated transport modeling), in other side, cold chain system is one cycle which systemic, so that optimizat ion problem from cold chain system cannot be observed as partial from every domain, but it must be holistic and systematic (Grasiano.W.Lailossa., 2010)The study and review show that New Paradigm to Developed Cold Chain System, must be based on Change the paradigm that integrated and synergism of the whole stack holder who later applied continuously and consequent in the whole process starting from harvest to consumptionThe new paradigm of integrated cold chain systems is how to create Integated model of cold chain systems that have the ability of refrigeration optimally during the process of transport of frozen fish from catching on the sea to arrive at destination exports country. Refrigeration system that has capabilities with the flexibility to continue to maintain the temperature of the products according to standards in charge, able to adapt to external variables that continue to influence will change sometimes even ekstirm due to the path or track that will be going through du ring the process of refrigerated transport. The Cold chain systems variabel should have the ability to affect of refrigeration during transport due to a temperature difference, optimization of variables that affected the refrigeration systems due to transport processes that can reduce cooling capabilities so it can not maintain the desired temperatureReferencesC. Impact of Immigration Policy on Integration
Impact of immigration Policy on IntegrationTo what extent go away recent and proposed changes to the immigration brass assist in successful integration of stark naked immigrants?Over the past 12 months, UK Immigration has seen a metamorphic transition, which reflects the gripping need that has been felt for legislative change. The new Immigration Rules are now in full swing, some of which pay off already hit the front line and others that are still presently under construction. It is unavoidable that all system that is introduced for the first time impart either be very beneficial in the successful integration of new immigrants or leave behind put one across devastating consequences.Following the Australia and Canada model, the most revolutionary change in the legal process is the introduction of the Points Based System (hereafter referred to as PBS) for new immigrants desire to wager, train or study in the UK It replaces the approximate 80 routes of doing either of the a bove under the present regime. These short termination or long term Immigration categories have been streamlined into one single immigration system. The PBS is classified under tiers and sets out clearly how an immigrant can successfully meet the criteria for adit through each of the various ways. The benefit of adopting the single system provides clarity in the law and secures a carefully controlled integration of new immigrants. The new system is much more simple in form and straightforward in operation. The advantage that new immigrants will have will be that they will be able to ascertain whether they meet the necessary criteria for a particular indorse, which will save them time and prevent wastage of costs.Looking at the new system in more depth, the PBS is divided into 5 Tiers. Tiers 1 (General) was introduced on 29th February 2008 and took effect from 30th June 2008.1. Tiers 2 5 have been in force since twenty-seventh November 2008. Tier 3 has been temporarily suspended and Tier 4, which applies to students aims to be incorporated by March 2009. Under each Tier, any prospective immigrant would need to score points in order to attain entry clearance, The points have been set by an independent body referred to as the Migration Advisory Committee. Instrumental to the PBS is the involvement of sponsorship2. some other change for new immigrants to consider is the requirement of the entry clearance and the fellowship of the English Language as a prerequisite. The objective of Tier 1, which came into force in February 2008 is aimed at, Highly Skilled Workers (hereafter referred to as HSW) and the Post Study Work (PSW) preciss, which replaces the former Highly Skilled Migrant Programme, (HSMP) the International Graduates Scheme, (IGS) The Fresh Talent Working in Scotland Scheme and the rules for business-people and innovators, enthroneors, generators, composers and artists3.This Tier has been formed in line with bringing in the, brightest and the best 4. On the face of it, the law appears to be complicated but the writer suggests that upon close examination, this is not the show window. Instead, this is good news for some workers, particularly those that do wish to enter on the PSW. The PSW allows a new worker to remain in the country for a period of 2 years and will benefit from good quality training. The original IGS scheme lacked consistency as employers were reluctant to invest in resource training of new recruits who were required to leave the country after 12 months. Eventhough the visa does not constitute a settlement visa, a new immigrant will still be able enter into long term agreements such as leases for accommodation purposes. The process under the old HSMP scheme and the new HSW scheme is very different. A new immigrant must score a number of points in relation to each item. The criteria for awarding points are presumptuousness on a sliding scale against requirements of a degree qualification, whether the new immigr ant has studied in the UK and if the prospective applicant is applying under the Scheme from within our remote of the UK. The new immigrant needs a score of 75 points or more in order to qualify on the scheme and additional 10 points for the knowledge of English. There is also requirement for those that apply outside the UK that they must have a bank balance of 2,800 and those within the UK must have 800.The purpose is to witness that the new immigrant is able to support him/herself up until the first salary is received and not be dependant upon Government resources. This minimum financial requirement may appear to be a hindrance for those who are residing outside the UK. It means that thither may be a section of society who are exceedingly qualified but do not have the financial standing and therefore are excluded from meeting the criteria.Tier 1 and the new law has already been brought into call into question where the case of foreign Doctors are concerned. In the BAPIO5 case , the House of Lords delivered judgement solely on the issue of lawfulness of the Department of Health Guidance. It was held that the guidance defeat a legitimate anticipation held by Doctors in training on the previous HSMP that they would not be prevented from undertaking work. Tier 1 (General) states that a make will not be able to undertake employment as a doctor in training up until entry clearance is granted. This is therefore, another(prenominal) procedural obstacle for a UK Immigrant.Tier 2 applies to skilled workers with a job offer and has been in existence since November 2008. This Tier replaces the concept of work permits totally which were traditionally created via a 2 stage process. (an approval letter was required prior to applying for a visa) It must be noted that the notion of the name work permit has been completed phased out since legislation that was passed in 20076The aim of the Tier is to help the UK Labour market. All prospective immigrants need entry clea rance and there will be no work permit or visa but a single decision made by the UK Border Agency. To qualify, a skilled foreign worker will have to obtain 507 points under the system and this will depend upon factors such as the person already being in skilled work and speaks a good standard English (save for those that are intra-company transferees and stay in the UK for less than 2 years) as well as having an earning capacity of 24,000 or having a recognised qualification. One way for an immigrant to earn 50 points immediately will be if the employer in the UK can show that they cannot claim the required skilled post with a British worker and that the job vacancy has been advertised in the UK. This leads onto the employer passing the Resident Labour Market judge (RLMT) which refers to the job being in shortage occupation. The rules are extremely detailed and there are four sub categories under the Tier 28. However, it would be outlay mentioning those specified occupations, whic h were previously under this Tier but have now will be excluded as per the new law. The Tier does not include abroad qualified nurses and midwifes, ground staff of overseas owned airlines, exchange teachers, and language assistants The list goes on. The writer considers these occupations to be a wide range of professionals in the cross(a) section of society, which does not help with the integration of new immigrants with these qualifications. There is a recent case of R(on the application of HSMP Forum Ltd v SSHD9 the Judge in this case has raised a concern with the new law regarding highly skilled migrants. The Judge has found that upon applying the new rules, there is a breach of legitimate expectation for those immigrants who have already obtained entry clearance because the immigrant will have not secured work associated with their skills and ability and that there will be an element of racial discrimination. . The business firm mogul has had to act fast following this Judgem ent and consequently, have issued a policy to incorporate the judgement. The previous rules (prior to November 2006) will apply to those UK immigrants who have been adversely affected by the change in law. This is good news for those immigrants that fall under this category.Alongside Tier 2 is the requirement of the certificate of sponsorship which has to be issued to the prospective employer. foregoing to this, the Company will have to firstly be registered with the UK Border Agency so that it can obtain a sponsorship license. Additionally, the procedural requirements for a company would be to demonstrate that it has effective HR systems in place to manage its workforce. The writer is of the view that skilled workers will be discouraged from coming to the UK because the law is improbably water tight. Additionally, if an organisation is called into question, if faces losing its license and any immigrant working would be required to leave the country within a period of 28 or 60 day s. The law goes even further as from the 29th February 2008, which states that if a Company knowingly employs an individual who is not legitimately working, it faces prose chopion and fine of up to 10,000 and any businesses that do the same face an unlimited fine or imprisonment. The procedure of carrying out this process is set to cause serious delay to the recruitment of get a line immigrants and employers will risk losing access to a pool of talent on an international level.Tier 4, which applies to students is set to come into force in March 2009. From July 2008, colleges and universities have been open to apply to the UK Border Agency to become registered sponsors. Under the Tier, only those overseas adults with a proven track record in studying will be permitted to apply and the student concerned will have to enrol on an English course. They will also have to pass a criminal maintenance test and produce supporting documents such as educational qualifications. The long term pla n for Autumn 2009 is the emergence of the an IT system to support the student visa route. It appears that the student visa rules are similar to old ones save for the fact that the new visa rules will only apply to overseas adults whether this will cut out a section of new immigrants is yet to be known. Finally, Tier 5 applies to Youth Mobility and temporary workers. Tier 5 of the PBS is currently in existence where temporarily workers wish to come to the UK for primarily non-economic reasons, such as sportspeople and charity workers. The new law still dictates that the new UK Immigrant is awarded 30 points and savings of at least 800. This again may be difficult for some workers who only essentially work on a temporary basis. Those that wish to come to the UK as an entertainer will still be will be assessed outside of the PBS under visitor visa rules. The Government is due to publish details of the new visitor visa category in the near future. There will be some aspects of the law whi ch will create successful integration as the new law creates transparency and clarity. The fact is that the actual criteria to meet has not considerably changed but what has reformed is the legal process. This will have a negative affect on those immigrants that will want to appeal against the decisions and the Asylum Immigration Tribunal (AIT) may be faced with a number of claims. The Government has produced a consultation paper10, which proposes to change the process of Immigration and Asylum appeals. There will be an additional hurdle to cross if the scope for Judicial Review is revise which will have the prevent the applicants right to appeal to the High Court, following a decision of the AIT.To conclude, the recent law has potential implications and has the chance of deterring new immigrants from applying and discriminate against particularly highly skilled individuals who hold the qualifications but not the job to go with it or those that simply will not have the financial s tanding . The new law regarding the integration of immigrants is to some extent a cause for concern as the law has already been under question and has subsequently been tweaked in its initial stages. This without doubt, will open up the floodgates for UK immigrants to question other areas of the new law.BIBLIOGRAPHYBooks1. Solar Energy What Will Save Our Earth Environmental Sciences Essay
solar Energy What Will Save Our Earth environmental Sciences EssayAround the world, everyone seems to adopt chiliad on their minds. However, this isnt green as in money, this green deals with the green movement. The green movement was started by environmentalists, whose goal it was to make known we argon damaging our populace and that we need to make changes to save it. The main focus of the green movement is to create alternative button sources for the world to use instead of depleting our fogy give nonice zero resources. With dodo fuels being non-renewable resources, we all must recognize the vigour problem and work towards other options.Eric McLamb, in his online article on energys future today, states non-renewable fossil fuels wereformed from plants and animals that lived hundreds of millions of years ago and became buried way underneath the Earths surface where their remains collectively transformed into the combustible materials we use for fuel.(McLamb, 1) Without ou r supply of fossil fuels, troupe would fail to exist as it does today. Our most commonplace fossil fuels today are oil, coal and natural gas, giving us our lovingness and electricity. Eric McLamb continued on to state,This means that fossil fuels, along with nuclear energy-a controversial, nonrenewable energy source- are supplying 93% of the worlds energy resources.(McLamb, 1)We obtain most of our fossil fuels through a mining process. During the various mining processes, the surrounding environment bathroom be highly damaged. Numerous oil spills have occurring enchantment mining, damaging great areas of our sea ecosystems. In addition to damaging water, the mining of coal strips enormous pieces of land, destroying our land ecosystems. Our ecosystems are being destroyed, as well as our atmosphere. When burned, fossil fuels release large amount of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The carbon dioxide in turn contributes greatly towards our planets international warming epidem ic, which then creates other issues. With global warming causing temperatures to rise, ice in places such as Antarctica, is melting causing ocean water to rise and negatively impact its surrounding ecosystems and other bodies of water.Rising sea levels alone can impede processes ranging from settlement, agriculture and fishing both commercially and recreationally. Air pollution is also a direct result of the use of fossil fuels, resulting in smogginess and the degradation of human health and plant growth. (McLamb, 1)By the year 2020, world energy function is projected to increase by 50% If the global consumption of renewable energy sources remains constant, the worlds available fossil fuel reserves will be consumed in 104 years or in the 22nd century.(McLamb, 1) With our non-renewable resources depleting and our nation continually growing, the need for other energy sources will not be decreasing anywhere in the near future. The energy sources being considered today piazza around natural elements wind, solar, and water energy sources. All of these sources are efficient, renewable, and healthy for our environment. For the purpose of this essay, I chose to focus strictly on solar energy. More specifically, I chose to focus on the advantages and detriments of solar energy on the U.S environmentally.I strongly believe that the U.S. needs to make the switch to solar energy and would environmentally benefit from doing so.Solar energy is radiant energy from the cheer, which is then harnessed and used to produce electricity. Solar energy began in the 7th century, using glass and the sun to make fire. Through the years the need for solar energy has increased and is used today to heat rooms, heat water, and generate electricity. In order to heat rooms and water, the radiant energy from the suns rays must be captured. It is difficult to capture rays because they are so spread out, the concentrations very dramatically. NEED, The National Energy Education organic evol ution Program, shares about how much solar energy that is available depends onthe time of day, the season of the year, and the clearness or cloudiness of the sky.(Solar, 40) Once the energy is caught, it needs to be transformed into usable energy. The main processes to transform the rays into energy are photovoltaic, solar power towers or by burning biomass. Photovoltaic cells are the most common and efficient way to commute solar energy. An enthusiast, Marissa Schiff, states in her article why the U.S. Should Rely More Heavily Upon Solar Energy, The photovoltaic effect occurs when sunlight is jailed by the cells that are similar to computer chips. The solar energy in this instance gets the electrons moving by separating them from their atoms which allows the electrons to move through the material and thus creates electricity.(Schiff, 2) atomic number 14 is the most common material used in photovoltaic cells and they are most efficiently used in rural settings.Another way to conver t solar into energy is through solar power towers, also known as central receivers. Schiff continues on to address solar power towers that generate energy from sunlight because they concentrate solar energy onto a tower which has a receiver on the top that converts energy and creates locomote.(Schiff, 2) Solar power towers are ideally for more populated areas, such as large cities. Lastly, a common way to convert the harnessed energy is through the burning of biomass. Schiff states, the biomass produces usable energy because it contains energy stored from the sun through the process of photosynthesis.(Schiff, 2) The burning of the biomass releases heat, which in turn can heat up buildings and can be used to create steam to generate electricity. When speaking of solar power, people tend to think of the positive effects it has on our environment. However, there are many detriments when it comes to the existence of many solar power plants. For example, the Solar Energy Development Progr ammatic Environmental Impact Statement website states, All utility-scale solar energy facilities require relatively large areas for solar ray collection when used to generate electricity at a commercial scale, and the large arrays of solar collectors may interfere with natural sunlight, rainfall, and drainage, which could have a configuration of effects on plants and animals.(Solar Energy, 1) The loss of land could damage many animals habitats, as well as stop current land use. For example, the land may soon be used for the grazing of sheep or even an archeological site. Also, most solar power plants would chose to use photovoltaic cell panels to capture the suns rays. These photovoltaic panels, although they have a coating on them, could be damaged and release harmful chemicals into our environment. As the Solar Energy Development PEIS points out, concentrating solar power systems may mesh liquids such as oils or molten salts that may be hazardous and present spill risks.(Solar Energy, 1)In addition to damaging the land, the water sources surrounding the solar power plant may be damaged. Many solar power plants use turbines to generate the electricity after captured by the panels. These turbines use water for chill purposes. As many solar power plants would be located in arid, hot climates, the water sources would already be limited. If a solar plant was to be built in such a place, there would be an increased strain on the water reserves. Another thought is if the water was contaminated accidently while cooling in the turbine, it could contaminate the entire water supply. Overall solar power plants could possibly cause a lot of damage to our environment. They are extensive facilities that would have to be treated much like that of a construction site, with extreme caution.Although there are several possible detriments to our environment, if we choose to convert to solar our environment would be greatly saved. Solar energy, along with all renewable reso urces, does not pollute our air and is quiet efficient. Solar energy would surmount global warming due to carbon dioxide emissions because it doesnt emit any at all. Solar energy also does not release nitrogen oxide or sulfur dioxide into our atmosphere, which would reduce smog and acid rain. (Schiff, 1) Also, as previously addressed, we must make the switch to solar energy in order to conserve our remaining fossil fuels so that we dont run out within the next 104 years as proposed.Fossil fuels must be mined solar on the other hand does not. Solar would reduce the waste that occurs through these mining processes that negatively effects our environment, such as dust, drainage and emissions. Finally, the efficiency of fossil fuels for electricity is relatively low. McLamb states,When you burn these fossil fuels to create electricity, we only convert about 35% of the energy produced into electricity the other 65% is lost mostly in heat.(McLamb, 1) As our fossil fuels are steadily depl eting we need a reliable energy source with a higher efficiency. Although single solar cells have relatively low efficiency, when millions are unite to create an entire solar power system, the efficiency increases. Since the sun is everlasting, the efficiency isnt as big of a deal as in the case of our fossil fuels. As our fossil fuels continue to deplete, everyone from environmentalists to national oil companies, are recognizing the fact that we must decide on an alternative energy source for our nation.Through the bear witness collected here, it is clear solar energy has its benefits and detriments, but it is understandably the best energy alternative.Although solar energy does present some detriments to our environment, they are only possibilities, not proven facts. The fact is that solar energy is dramatically better for our environment than todays fossil fuels.Initially expensive, yet worthwhile in the long run, environmentally-friendly solar energy is the direction the U.S. sho uld be heading. the surreal world :: essays research papers fc
Art comes in many different shapes and sizes. From drawing on a desk in high school to digital art on computers, we dont notice that art surrounds us everywhere. However, there is one particular art form that is gaining interest throughout the world, and has been approximately for years. This art form is known as Surrealism. Surrealism is the only form of art that truly lets you talk your fountainhead the substance you want it to be expressed, with no limits or boundaries. In Surrealism, there is no gravity, oral communication flow like water, objects can fly in the limitless skies, and images can swim. Basically, Surrealism has no rules it is only the artist and his mind. rough the early 1900s, soon after the eldest military man War, a man by the name of Tristan Tzara disliked the idea of war, and was disgusted by what happened and why World War 1 started. Tzara thought that a society that creates such chaos as war does not deserve art. However, his attempt to humiliate the new technical world did not go the way he planned. His anti-art became art. The new chaotic, rebellious images became the status quo. This was known as the Dada impulsion. The Dada movement slowly wearied into thin air, as a convention of artists thought the Dada Movement destroyed the gift of what centuries of artists have learned and passed on about the craft of art. This is when the Surrealist Movement began.Surrealism, the movement in literature and fine arts, was established by a French poet by the name of Andre Breton. The goal of this movement was to emphasize the unconscious mind in a creative way. It was to express the unconscious mind in a more orderly and serious manner. There are two groups of surrealists that organise throughout this movement. One of the groups is the Automatists. Automatists indulged in a more creative manner, they thought of their art as meaningless. This is not to say they didnt care about their art, barely they simply did not have a definiti on of what they created. They believed that is was automatic the way images from the subconscious reached the conscious. The other group of Surrealist are known as the Veristic Surrealists.
